Psion threatens to sue netbook profiteers
Psion, a portable computer maker based in the UK has reportedly been issuing cease and desist letters to a number of websites and blogs for allegedly infringing intellectual property rights on the use of the term ‘netbook’.
According to a response from legal firm Origin, acting on behalf of Psion sent to jkontherun regarding the letters, they stated:
We have sent letters out solely to those making a direct, financial profit from use of the ‘Netbook’ trademark.
The response continues to clarify the fact that letters are being issued primarily to retailers and manufacturers using the ‘netbook’ term, with some being sent to websites containing sponsored advertising for ‘netbook’ products.
They include an example of an Amazon UK advertisement whereby a retailer is describing both Toshiba and Acer ULCPC’s as netbooks.
